April gives us two important reminders: Earth Day (April 22) and Stop Food Waste Day (April 30). While Earth Day encourages us to protect our environment, Stop Food Waste Day highlights one of the biggest environmental issues—food waste.
Nearly 40% of all food in the U.S. goes to waste. That’s 119 billion pounds every year, and it’s not just about the food itself. Wasting food means wasting the water, energy, and labor it took to grow and transport it.
So what can we do? Buy only what we need, store food properly, and embrace leftovers. This April, let’s commit to wasting less—because every small effort adds up to a healthier planet.
